Topic 2e Part 1: Making In-Situ Measurements - Breaking Through the Ice
Icebreaker ships are designed to move and navigate through ice-covered waters, they clear paths by pushing straight into frozen-over water or pack ice.
An ice floe is a large pack of floating ice often defined as a flat piece at least 20 m across at its widest point, and up to more than 10 km across.
In this video, Michel, Marylou and Tim explain how they use the icebreaker to test a floe's thickness.
